About The Program

Delve into European politics while studying at Sciences Po in Paris, the political center of France. Political science and history majors will benefit from a mix of course topics in global economics, international relations, and business law. Retrace French history at the site of the Allied invasion in Normandy, the ornate Palace of Versailles, or Lyon, France’s foodie capital. Get a panoramic view of Paris at the Arc de Triomphe, the site of several victory parades for more than two centuries. Perfect your language skills while visiting the Louvre, strolling along the banks of the Seine, or taking in café life.

Where you'll study

Sciences Po is a highly selective university training the next generation of political leaders and international liaisons. Its Paris campus is located in the district of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, close to the Louvre, the Seine, and the Luxembourg Gardens. The campus is one of seven, and Paris is the historic site where Sciences Po was founded. Sciences Po functions much like a modern business school with a strong emphasis on rigorous methodological training in social science research. The campus is positioned in the midst of French ministries and the Assemblée Nationale. The research programs conducted at Sciences Po are highly regarded by the European Research Council Grants and National Research Agency. Sciences Po partners with a network of 400+ world-class universities to inspire collaborations and research opportunities for international exchange students like you.

I learned a lot from professors who are experts in political science and international relations, and my French language skills improved. I built friendships and connections with people from around the world with whom I share common interests. Participating in this program helped me realize that I would like to work for a nongovernmental organization to promote education in places where war and political conflict have deprived kids of this human right.

Adolfo Gonzalez Valle UC Riverside Political Science, International Affairs France

My semester abroad has undoubtedly been the most transformative experience of my college career. For four months, I took courses in French and English supplementing the political science framework I developed at Berkeley. In addition to academic coursework, I also received an international education through peers and faculty. From Canada to Korea to Croatia, I came in contact with people from all corners of the world, each with divergent perspectives on everything from politics to food to sports. Among the many souvenirs I brought home, I carry with me the lessons and connections that will last a lifetime.

The most important thing I learned about myself while abroad is how self-sufficient I can be. My experience abroad helped me see that I can consistently succeed on my own.

Catherine Parker UC Santa Barbara France

The courses at Sciences Po differed from those at my home university—they were engaging and emphasized stimulating discussion. The smaller class sizes allowed for more interaction and personal attention from the professors. Overall, the academic environment encouraged critical thinking and in-depth analysis, fostering a deeper understanding of the subjects. There was genuine interest in cultural exchange in a warm and inclusive environment.

Briana Angulo UC Davis International Migration Studies France

I left my internship in May knowing the ins and outs of Paris, a semester of economics under my belt, two hundred hours of work experience, and lifelong friendships that reach all across the world.

I left Sciences Po in May with a semester of economics experience through a focused internship under my belt. I also know the ins and outs of Paris and have lifelong friendships reaching across the world.

The opportunity to study abroad showed me the wonder of each day from many tiny pieces that combine to make a truly beautiful experience. I had the chance to become a French collegiate athlete, conversationally proficient in French, and dramatically improved my sense of fashion. I traveled around Europe and made some of the best friends I have to this day.

Dennis Gavrilenko UC Los Angeles Business Economics and Data Science France

For anyone scared to jump into study abroad, I get it. There are a lot of outside factors at play, but taking that leap was the best thing I've ever done for myself. I became more confident and adventurous and even developed a better sense of style. Yes, there were hard moments, but this is the time to challenge ourselves and push outside our comfort zones. Studying abroad will do that for you, and you will not regret it!

Brianna Angulo UC San Diego Political Science and International Relations France

There's a reason everyone says studying abroad is the best experience of their life. Moving to another country and fully immersing in another culture quickly teaches you to adapt. It gives you a constant stream of new ideas and experiences. It encourages you to explore the world and yourself. It provides the chance to learn a new language and meet people from all over the world. Most importantly, it shows you that there are many ways to live life.
