Housing
You’ll stay in a prearranged apartment in Bangkok for the first portion of your program and in a rural village homestay for the fieldwork portion of the program. Thammasat University arranges the homestay for you once your field study project is set.
First Three Weeks - Apartment
You will stay at Amarin Mansion, a residence that’s very much like a hotel, across the river from the university. The property has elevators and a lobby with 24-hour security. The layout is modern, bright, and filled with light.

Commute
The residence is a 20-minute walk or 10-minute bus ride to the campus.
Last Month - Homestay
At the end of each day in the field, you’ll return to your host family for the evening. Homes may range from a wooden house built on stilts to a bamboo hut. All family members will often sleep in the same room under mosquito nets that sometimes protect more than one person. The entire family shares bathrooms, which are rudimentary compared to the typical home or apartment back home. Depending on your personal diet and taste, you may buy and prepare your own meals or eat with your host family. Since each homestay hosts only one student, most students form genuinely close bonds with their host families. So much so that they refer to family members as ‘my mom’ and ‘my little sister,’ for example.

Commute
If needed, Thammasat University will arrange your transportation for you. You’ll travel in an open-roof truck with two bench seats, called a songthaew, often over rough roads made muddy by the monsoons. The transportation time varies from 15 to 40 minutes depending on the distance between your field study site and homestay. Thammasat University makes every effort to place you close to your field site and keep the commute time to a minimum.
