This course provides a general introduction to intellectual property law. It focuses on copyright law, one of the intellectual property laws, which is most pertinent to the diverse laws and regulations derived from the most current information and communication technology. Relevant intellectual property legal system, which has changed dramatically with the advent of Internet technology, will be introduced as well.

This course is intended to provide an introduction to basic concepts in virology and viral life cycles and to cover topics of various host responses induced by virus infection. Lectures will be focused on in-depth molecular mechanisms for propagation of pathogenic human and animal viruses and how viral infection can be controlled.

Political parties and elections are key elements of political representation that profoundly shape whose voices get heard and ultimately translated into public policy. This course explores democratic representation through political parties around the world and the effects of electoral systems on party system development. It critically examines the role of political parties in the representation of societal interests, party system evolution, the consequences of electoral law, and challenges facing modern political parties today. Students develop both contextual knowledge of political party and electoral systems around the world as well as theoretical knowledge on the evolution, functioning, and purpose of party representation.

Economics is divided into two major subfields, microeconomics and macroeconomics. This course provides an introduction to microeconomics, which attempts to understand the behavior of individual entities such as markets, firms, and households. Consistent with the idea of a “principles” class, the course focuses on a core set of fundamental concepts to understand various microeconomic issues such as scarcity; tradeoffs; opportunity cost; incentive; marginal thinking; exchange; efficiency; information, and so on.

This course provides an introduction to probability and statistics with a view toward applications. It includes topics on mathematical models for random phenomena, random variables, expectation, and discrete & continuous distributions. This course also covers laws of large numbers, central limit theorem, and basic techniques of inferential statistics. Students are expected to be familiar with statistical thinking and the basic concepts of descriptive statistics, probability distribution, and inferential statistics through this course.
