Purpose, Scope & Definitions

The University of California Education Abroad Program (UCEAP) is committed to protecting the privacy and accuracy of your personally identifiable information (hereinafter referred to as "Personal Data").

"Personal Data" is any information that enables us to identify you, directly or indirectly, by reference to an identifier such as your name, identification number, location data, online identifier, or one or more factors specific to your physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural, or social identity. 

This Privacy Policy governs the manner in which UCEAP collects, uses, maintains and discloses information collected from users (each, a "user" or "you") of the UCEAP website ("Site"). The information published here is limited to the use of personal information by this Site. Additional notices are published in relation to our use of the personal information of UCEAP program applicants.

HOW WE COLLECT AND USE INFORMATION

Log Information

When you visit this Site, our server may automatically record (or log) information that your browser sends. This information may include your Internet Protocol (IP) address, browser type and language, the date and time of your request, the number of times a web page was accessed, the paths (links) taken through the Site, and search terms entered on our search engines. This Site may also collect information about the internet address (URL or IP) of the referring site. This type of information is collected to improve the Site or individual Site page content, monitor performance, improve functionality (including navigation and searches), Site security, troubleshooting, and to provide services to you. UCEAP uses third party web analysis service, Google Analytics to help gather and analyze this information. This Site uses cookies. A cookie is a small file containing a string of characters placed on your computer or mobile device. These cookies allow us to distinguish you from other users of the Site, which helps us to provide you with a good experience when you browse the Site. It also allows us to improve Site performance and update content. Users may choose to set their web browser to refuse cookies, or to alert you when cookies are being sent. Submitted Information

If your information is submitted to any UCEAP website, we will collect the information submitted. We will use this information to communicate with you and for purposes of research and statistical analysis, including optional surveys, as necessary to serve our legitimate interest in identifying trends, improving our programs and to promote access and diversity.

BASIS FOR PROCESSING

The processing of the information we collect is necessary for the legitimate interests of UCEAP in operating and improving the Site, analyzing Site use, and ensuring security. When you submit an inquiry or provide feedback through the site, you are providing consent for us to process that data for the purpose described.

THIRD PARTY SITES

Our Site may contain links to non-University sites (Third Party Sites). UCEAP is not responsible for nor does it control the content, use, or retention of information found on linked Third Party Sites. Third Party Sites may collect or solicit data from you or place their cookies or other files on your computer. Checking the privacy statements of Third Party Sites is recommended. UCEAP does not endorse the services or products found on Third Party Sites.

HOW WE PROTECT YOUR INFORMATION

We adopt appropriate data collection, storage and processing practices and security measures to protect against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure or destruction of your Personal Data, username, password, transaction information and data stored on our Site.
Sensitive and private data exchange between the Site and the user happens over a SSL secured communication channel and is encrypted and protected with digital signatures.

SHARING YOUR INFORMATION

If you make an inquiry via our Site, those communications will be used to respond to you and to improve services. Unless you request otherwise, your inquiry may be forwarded to another UC addressee who may be more appropriate to respond.

We do not sell, trade, or rent Users' Personal Data to others. We may share generic aggregated demographic information not linked to any Personal Data regarding visitors and users with UC campus partners, or de-identified data with third parties, for research and statistical analysis related to improving our programs, education, and promoting access and diversity. We may use third party service providers to help us operate our business and the Site.

WHERE WE STORE YOUR INFORMATION

If you are visiting our Site from outside of the United States, please be aware that you are sending information to the United States where our servers are located. That information may then be stored or transferred within the United States or back out of the United States to other countries outside of your country of residence, depending on the type of information and how it is stored by us. These countries, including the United States, may not necessarily have data protection laws as comprehensive or protective as those in your country of residence; however, our collection, storage and use of your Personal Data will at all times continue to be governed by this Privacy Policy.

UPDATING PERSONAL INFORMATION

To review, update, or correct inaccurate personal information you've previously provided or to delete it, if it is not otherwise required to be retained by law or for a university business purpose, direct your request to UCEAP Privacy by sending an email to privacy@uceap.universityofcalifornia.edu or by mail to 420 S Fairview Ave, Suite 202, Goleta, California 93117.

CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY

UCEAP may modify this Privacy Policy periodically without notice. Your use of the Site thereafter signifies your acknowledgement and acceptance of the modified Privacy Policy. Any revisions to this notification will be posted at this URL.
