Today’s computer science majors are showing the way to a more equitable world by delivering applications and systems that stimulate growth, communication, and learning. Become a master at expecting the unexpected as you solve problems. Taking your studies abroad gives you the chance to test prediction models in Japan, use artificial intelligence to identify the cause of problems negatively affecting people's lives in Singapore, and design technology that is accessible and socially responsible in Sweden.
My internship showed me that I am capable of learning challenging tools and technologies on my own. While I struggled at times, it gave me the opportunity to learn about a technology I had been afraid to learn alone.
My internship confirmed my interest in a career in software development, specifically mobile app development and backend work. It deepened my understanding of what it takes to build functional, user-friendly software, and I loved the challenge. At the same time, it opened my eyes to the importance of working with multidisciplinary teams and understanding different perspectives to find solutions. This experience made me more interested in combining my technical skills with communication and collaboration skills, which I hadn't fully considered before.
I feel really lucky to have completed a study abroad experience at International Christian University (ICU). I'm very grateful to the UCEAP Tokyo team for doing their best to make our experience as amazing as possible. I'm very lucky to have had the opportunity to connect with the community as much as I did. Even though I was only at ICU for half a year, it definitely made my experience 10 times more meaningful.
This internship has given me a head start in familiarity with the tools I will encounter in my future career. I learned to be an efficient and independent worker and how to research rather than rely on others to answer questions about my work. I also learned to be accountable with my work by developing a mindset centered on work-life balance.
