When you study abroad, a foreign film is no longer foreign but something you’ve lived and experienced. Gain analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills through the lens of creativity. Studying film and media studies abroad gives you the chance to see films and media productions from a new perspective. Go to festivals and experience the films that are shaping and influencing other cultures in London. Work with film production teams and discover how stories are crafted in a new culture in Denmark. Explore the methods of creating new media through video and audio recordings in Sussex.
My goals and expectations were blown out of the water with the professional internship. It directly correlated to my major and future career goals, and if anything made me want to go into the film and media industry more because of how interesting and fun it was. Before this experience, I was content to stay in the Bay Area, but the international experience of working with people of different backgrounds and nationalities made me want to live somewhere else, possibly in a different country.
My internship at the Cineteca Nacional de Mexico allowed me to use my technical skills in a professional setting. It helped me push myself when it came to communicating in a language I was not used to using in a professional environment. I was able to build on my film production techniques and explore an aspect of film I had never had access to before.
During my internship as a creative production intern abroad, I experienced significant personal and professional growth. One of the most impactful areas of growth I experienced was my cultural awareness. Working in a Japanese company required me to adapt to unfamiliar cultural norms such as the importance of hierarchy, which I found challenging as an American. This internship honed my creative skills, expanded my global perspective and taught me the value of adaptability, collaboration and cultural sensitivity.
