This course is the continuation of module 1 (CATALAN 100). The principal objective of the course is to develop students' communicative competence to survive in Catalan in real situations.  This Catalan language course corresponds with the A2 level in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Combining theory and practice, this course offers an introduction to sound art. Topics include: sound generation and sound object; soundscape and listening modes; recording and creative editing; installation and sound action.

This course explores Spanish cinema from its origins to the present day including viewings of some of the most representative films of each era.

This first year course explores the evolution of literature and the concepts of canon, tradition, and classic(s) through a broad textual analysis of representative and influential texts. It examines major texts and authors considered to have shaped intellectual history and literary criticism from their origins to the nineteenth century. Topics covered include: foundations of Western literary tradition (Homer and the Bible); tragedy; the epic and the evolution of the narrative genre (the novel and the short story); lyric poetry.
