Course Description
This course is designed for foreign students who have completed two years of college-level training in Chinese to continue to develop skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The course solidifies the ability to comprehend paragraph-level Chinese through listening and reading activities and increases the ability to speak fluently on most familiar topics, give factual accounts, use formal Chinese to make presentations and write essays, reports and correspondence.

Course Description

This advanced Chinese language course is for students who have taken Intermediate Chinese I of the Chinese Language Course for International Students or those who have taken at least 450 hours (6 hours per week) of Chinese language instruction. The course develops proficient language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, for students to communicate effectively in their daily lives. The course instructs on vocabulary and grammar that are not often used in daily conversations. Students learn to use appropriate Chinese language leading in discussions leading to a greater understanding of Taiwanese culture and language. The course utilizes the textbook, A Course in Contemporary Chinese IV.

Course Description

This course is the first part of “History of Classical Chinese Literature”, one of the basic courses in Chinese Department. The course introduces the core themes, the basic characteristics and the learning goals of the Chinese literary history, as well as main literature progressing in Pre-Qin and Han dynasty. Topics to be discussed: Myths and Ancient Folk Songs, The Book of Songs”, essays in Chunqiu and Zhanguo, historical essays, Chu Ci, rhymes and essays in Han Dynasty, Han Yuefu, the scholars’ poems in the late Han dynasty. The course introduces core themes in Pre-Qin and Han dynasty, with historical and anthropological focus.

Course Description

Calligraphy is the representative of Chinese art. To understand Chinese art, calligraphy is a convenient way to enter. The purpose of offering calligraphy aesthetics and practice, a general elective course across colleges and departments, is to enable students who are not majoring in calligraphy to have a preliminary perception of the aesthetics of Chinese calligraphy, a general cognition of the history of Chinese calligraphy, and a basic experience of the basic techniques of Chinese calligraphy. Therefore, this course is integrated with aesthetics, history and practice. In this course, students not only listen to the history and theory of calligraphy taught by teachers and famous teachers, but also practice calligraphy in person under the inspiration of the teachers' unique teaching methods: seal script, official script, regular script, running script, cursive script, meaning and ancient meeting, elegant in hand. Students will be improved aesthetically, cultivated in their humanistic and artistic temperament, improved in the practice of writing, and finally have a new understanding of Chinese calligraphy and Chinese artistic spirit.

This course is for international undergraduate students with intermediate Chinese proficiency. The selected textbooks cover a wide range of subjects, including literature, history, philosophy and natural sciences, etc., and the contents are highly discussable, helping to train students' critical thinking abilities. Course Description

This course aims at improving the ability of academic writing in Chinese for international students. This course consists of three parts: 1. Learning the features, format, writing style of Chinese academic papers, as well as the features of related language expressions, including vocabulary, sentence structure, paragraphs etc. 2. From the aspect of language expression, you will be provided with the writing methods which are frequently used in academic writings, including explanations, descriptions, making statements and examples, comparisons and arguments. 3. You will be provided with exercises related to academic writing, including the topics and subtitles, abstract and key words, introduction, literature review, arguments (eg. quotes), conclusion, reference, appendix as well as concluding remarks. This course will connect writing techniques with your language ability training. By reading examples and making analysis of common mistakes, students will get some ideas about the features of Chinese academic papers, will understand the differences of academic and non-academic Chinese, and will study the general guideline for writing Chinese academic papers. As students understand certain necessary procedures and skills of academic writing, they will be capable of writing academic papers independently.

Course Description

This course has a total of 32 class hours and is a beginner Chinese language course for international graduate students throughout the school. This course divided into two categories: (1) One is related to the content of the beginner Chinese (A) course, which requires students to have studied Chinese for at least 48 hours and master 200 Chinese vocabulary. Through the course, students will further expand their vocabulary, master more complex grammar, and fluently communicate with others on topics such as weather, gift giving, and being guests. (2) The other type is a single course for majors such as EMBA and GMBA. The course content is aimed at students with zero foundation in Chinese through course learning, students can master the basic knowledge of Pinyin, understand the basic structure of Chinese characters, master basic vocabulary and grammar structure, and be able to use the learned vocabulary to communicate on topics such as self introduction, time, and schedule.
