I completed a 240-hour in-person internship as a stage manager for an improv production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in Prague, Czech Republic. Each day, I facilitated rehearsals, kept the director's notes, coordinated across departments, including lighting, sound, and costume, and sent daily call sheets and reports to the full production team. Conducted partly in Czech, the internship connected directly to my Human Developmental Science major by placing me in a real-world environment where I observed group dynamics, emotional regulation, and interpersonal behavior under the pressure of live performance. The experience deepened my understanding of how cultural context shapes human development and collaboration.
This internship did not push me away from performance; instead, it helped me understand my place within it more clearly. Watching the actors begin each day with improvisation exercises, I stood on the sidelines, feeling a strong urge to join in. Not being able to participate made me realize how much I crave being part of the action. That clarity has given me more information to work with as I imagine my career.
