In this informative event, we'll explore crucial topics, including the process of traveling with a 'Gender X' designation on your passport and the nuances of navigating diverse cultural considerations while traveling as a trans or non-binary student. Join us to gather insights, share experiences, and acquire the knowledge, resources, and support you need to make your time abroad a fulfilling and affirming experience.

Navigating Uncharted Waters: Undocumented Students' Resilience in Education Abroad

Join us for a compelling session that sheds light on the remarkable journeys of undocumented students pursuing education abroad. Students will share their personal stories, reflecting on the hurdles they faced throughout the application process, securing Advance Parole, and thriving while studying abroad.

Discover firsthand the tenacity and strength of these students as they recount the barriers and challenges they encountered, from navigating intricate application procedures to dealing with the uncertainty of obtaining Advance Parole. Gain insights into the unique experiences they encountered while living and studying in foreign countries, often without the safety net of legal recognition.
This session will also highlight the critical role of support systems, allies, and campus offices in fostering an environment where undocumented students can not only dream of studying abroad but can also flourish academically and personally. Learn about the instrumental impact of university resources, legal assistance, and the unwavering encouragement of allies in helping these students overcome obstacles and embrace the international education they deserve.

LGBTQIA+ Out in the World

While LGBTQIA+ life exists everywhere, the degree to which it's visible and supported varies greatly around the world. This session will help prepare students with the tools, knowledge, and confidence they need to study abroad as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. Participants will have an opportunity to hear from UCEAP alumni and learn about their experiences as LGBTQIA+ students abroad.

Path to Global Learning: Study Abroad and Away for Undocumented Students

Deciding where and when to study abroad or away can be a journey unto itself—for undocumented students that journey often starts with navigating multiple complex systems both within and outside of the university. This session embraces the idea that global learning is for everyone and that it's possible to remove barriers to participation for undocumented students through identifying your resources, engaging your support system, and finding a network of peers. Attend this session to consider the different paths to global learning you can pursue, hear from your peers who successfully navigated the advance parole process to study abroad, and learn about the different resources available to you as you get started!

The ABCs of Global Learning for ABC Students

During this session, we'll explore what it's like to experience Blackness in different cultural contexts through the lived experiences of UC ABC (African, African-American, Afro-Latine, Black, or Caribbean) global learning alumni who studied or interned in different parts of the world. We'll tackle important issues around race and identity abroad and away, considerations in different cultural regions, how to navigate your transition to a new culture, and what resources you can use to prepare and set expectations for success.
