About The Program

Attend a modestly sized university in suburban Tokyo. Hitotsubashi University specializes exclusively in humanities and social science courses, emphasizing undergraduate research. Academics are taught in a unique style called a Zemi. A small group of students in a specific discipline works closely with the focused attention of a Japanese professor, serving as instructor and mentor. This academic style lets you build close, personal relationships with the students in your group and the instructor. Enjoy continued Japanese language study and campus activities with international and local students.

Where you'll study

Hitotsubashi University is a national research university and the only university in Japan to specialize exclusively in the humanities and social sciences. Comprised of four faculties: Economics, Law, Social Sciences, and Commerce, the university is also home to the Institute of Economic Research and Institute, the Institute of Innovation Research, and a graduate school of International Corporate Strategy. Since its foundation, Hitotsubashi has been at the forefront of Japanese innovation and a significant motivator for entrepreneurs, inventors, and business owners. Teaching and researching activities primarily take place at the Kunitachi campus in western Tokyo, where you’ll be taking classes. The university actively seeks international academic exchange students and the ratio of international students finding jobs after studying at Hitotsubashi University is the highest among Japanese universities. The campus road is lined by cherry blossom trees. During spring, the whole place turns a hazy snowy pink.
