The internship added to my academic experience and coursework as it gave me the real-world experience that I lacked from just classes alone. I was able to apply the material learned in my psychology classes (SIMCA) and my public health classes (frameworks for public action and campaigns) and learn how to apply them to real-life situations while also understanding the intersection between my two majors. This internship strongly influenced my career plans as I found that I genuinely enjoy participating in research. I was intrigued when analyzing the different public campaigns and how they could have improved. Through this internship, I have decided that I want to pursue this work in the future and aim to work at a research institute. I would also like to gain more training in working with communities and public organizations as I found this work to be very rewarding while speaking with environmental champions for one of my projects.
