During my semester abroad in Brazil, I learned so much—both in and outside the classroom. As a Political Science student focused on community development, I wanted to connect with local communities and really immerse myself in the culture. I took funk dance classes for three months, which gave me a deeper appreciation for its cultural significance. The highlight of my experience was volunteering with Aper Rocinha, a community group that brings together students and locals to clean parks and organize events. It was an incredible way to get involved and really understand the power of community building.
