Through new tasks with a large-scale impact, I developed my research and communication skills. When it comes to research, I have been able to identify relevant and accurate information from a variety of sources to formulate due diligence assessments and written policy reports. Having had the opportunity to complete research in this manner on the topics of the use of AI in research and training and capacity development at the UN, among others, I learned how to apply the skill of research in new circumstances. Along with improving my critical thinking and evaluation skills as I needed to respond thoughtfully and promptly to research requests. I plan to apply this skill in the future as an intern with UCDC this upcoming fall and in doing academic research at UCI for the year to come. I will be prepared to conduct policy research on Capitol Hill and utilize existing literature to produce a project of my own, thanks to the thorough development of this skill in Geneva. I also developed my communication skills with the mentorship of my supervisor, who always emphasized the importance of thoughtful consideration for language, particularly on the international stage. I have become more aware of the sensitivities around certain topics and words for different nations, developing my ability to carefully communicate effectively with an awareness of my audience. This is a skill I will apply in my daily life, from communicating with future co-workers to elected officials; I am now a more conscious and effective communicator.
