Participate in a seven-week, full-time internship integrated with an academic seminar that culminates in a final project and presentation. The program enables students to develop practical, career-relevant skills while gaining professional international experience to strengthen their résumé. Internship placements are hosted by innovative start-ups, multinational corporations, and nonprofit organizations across a range of industries aligned with students’ academic and career interests.

Sample industry sectors and previous placements include:

  • Business: Professional women’s network and global community supporting early-stage female entrepreneurs 
  • Computer Science: Travel technology startup developing digital platforms and tools that streamline business travel booking and reservations 
  • Marketing: Mobile game development company specializing in competitive multiplayer games 
  • Marketing: Technology company developing AI-powered applications that support B2B sales processes

Requirements While Abroad

To successfully complete this program:

  • Participate in an internship and the Internship Methodology Seminar for a total of 9 quarter/6 semester UC units.
  • You may take the seminar for a letter grade or pass/no pass.

Current Program Courses

You'll complete a full-time internship (30 hours per week over 7 weeks) along with an in-person seminar course (7 seminars that are 2.5 hours each). During the academic seminar, students will participate in lectures, guided discussions, and interactive activities focused on intercultural competence and professional skill development. Students reflect on their internship experiences through readings, videos, journals, and assignments that connect workplace practice with academic concepts.

Additional or optional coursework, internships, and research for academic credit are not possible on this program.

Academic Culture

Your in-person academic seminar consists of small classes with other students from the University of California.

This program has a strict attendance policy for both the academic seminar and the internship placement. 

Grades

You'll earn direct UC credit and grades for all coursework.

Summer grades are typically available in mid-September.

The official transcript will only display the Internship Methodology Seminar course valued at 9 quarter/6 semester UC units, and the grade earned.

If you are studying abroad in your final term, grades may not arrive in time to meet degree verification deadlines.  Please speak with your campus academic advisor about your graduation plans.
