Course Description
This course provides an overview of the most significant evolutionary transitions in relation to the environmental changes associated with them; details the processes that contributed to these changes; and thus develops an understanding of the principles of evolutionary biology. Human evolution is explored in relation to this background and in relation to the evolution of language and disease. This course covers the fundamentals of evolutionary biology, both in terms of recognizing and interpreting evolutionary patterns and understanding the processes that are thought to drive evolutionary change. The course examines evolutionary theory and explores evolutionary processes, on both micro and macro scales, using a range of organisms from bacteria through to metazoans (plants and animals).

Course Description
This course introduces design and development practices for multimedia content, focusing particularly on web sites. Modern design practices for the web are taught, framed by an introduction to human-centered design techniques, particularly heuristic based interface design guidelines for web interfaces and web accessibility from a global perspective. Today's web sites need to be both well designed and dynamic, thus the course also introduces some basic scripting techniques for going beyond static content. The focus of learning is activity based and incorporates both individual and team based exercises.
