This course examines the background of contemporary philosophy of language and the main controversial topics. Students learn to read and analyze the literature in this field, so as to have a preliminary ability to study philosophy of language. The course is divided into two modules. The first module introduces the meaning theory of language; the second module introduces the reference theory of language.

The course mainly studies paintings, but also includes sculptures, photography, video, experimental ink painting, conceptual art, pop art, installation art and performance art. The discussion around the works involves art design, folk art, advertising, movies, graffiti, comics, fashion and more.

This course introduces basic knowledge in child development, especially the essential influence of the environment of family to child development. Course topics include: theory of child development, influence of child development, child social adaptation, psychological problems during child development, treatment, parenting, early-child development in foreign countries, baby care, disadvantaged children and child welfare.
Students will be required to use theory to analyze relational phenomenon during child development.

This course explores Chinese economic reforms and development since the end of the 1970s, and introduces many of the elements of China's emergence and its potential role in the world economy. It uses China as a case study placing Chinese economic development in a historical and comparative context, exploring the contradiction between the unprecedented economic growth of the past century and the persistence of poverty in rich countries. The course begins with theories of economic growth and poverty and studies economic and social institutions and public policy debates on ways to achieve rising incomes while improving living standards and promoting equality. The first part is on economic development and the most commonly used models of development. The second part covers contracts and development.

This course examines the basic principles of maritime law and international conventions, including: contract of carriage, maritime collision, salvage, general average, limitations of liabilities and insurance.
