During my internship at a university ecology lab, I contributed to a research project examining citizen science data to better understand urban bird populations. Using ArcGIS to create detailed maps, I identified patterns in bird diversity and helped guide field surveys across Sydney’s green spaces. This experience strengthened my skills in spatial mapping, data analysis, and ecological research, inspiring a deeper interest in conservation and biodiversity and shaping my future academic direction toward ecology-focused research.
Through this internship, I gained a deeper understanding of myself and developed a newfound passion for ecology, which has reshaped the direction of my academic pursuits. I gained a deeper understanding of the research process, which sparked my interest in pursuing research after graduation. Most importantly, I became more confident in myself and my abilities.
