Internship Type

During my internship with a community-based health and outreach organization in Paris, I split time between front‑desk support, mobile clinic outreach, and research. I assisted with STI booking and immigration paperwork, joined nighttime and mobile “camping car” visits to provide rapid testing, supplies, and conversation, shadowed clinicians, and volunteered as a scribe. My primary project was a French‑language, 60‑page study on the organization’s care model for trans communities—designing surveys, interviewing staff and beneficiaries, and synthesizing findings to demonstrate why meeting people where they are makes care safer and more effective.

Karishma Lawrence profile
quote-mark

I still want to practice medicine, but I also want to build bridges between traditional healthcare and community organizations like [this]. I want to create spaces where people aren’t just patients—they’re seen in the context of their whole lives. [This] didn’t change my dream—it expanded it.
