I completed a 300-hour in-person internship at an accounting and audit firm in downtown Singapore. Working alongside a professional audit team, I assisted with audit engagements across multiple clients, vouching transactions, checking bank reconciliations, preparing audit working papers, and supporting inventory verification. Conducted primarily in English, with some Chinese, the internship brought my Business Administration coursework to life, transforming abstract concepts such as financial statements and internal controls into hands-on professional responsibilities. Navigating Singapore's fast-paced work culture and bilingual professional environment pushed me to grow in analytical thinking, attention to detail, and cross-cultural communication.
At first, tasks like vouching transactions and checking bank reconciliations felt routine, but over time I began to see how each small detail contributed to a bigger picture: assessing a company's financial health. Finance isn't just about numbers. It's about people too.
