French Language Study: Required

French language courses are taught in French using techniques tailored to UC students to create an immersive learning environment. All elective courses are taught in English.

Summer Packages

This program has two separate summer language tracks: Semi-Intensive and Intensive. Both tracks include French language study along with one upper-division elective course taught in English.

If you have no French language background you may take either the Semi-Intensive track or the Intensive track. If you are above the introductory level of French, you may only take the Intensive track, and a language questionnaire will help ensure you are placed in a French class at the best language level for you.

The French language course on the Semi-Intensive track is comparable to one quarter of French language study at UC.

The French language courses on the Intensive track are comparable to two quarters/one semester of French language study at UC.

Fall Package

The fall package is only open to students who have no French language background. The package consists of French language study along with one upper-division elective course taught in English.

The French language courses on the fall package are comparable to three quarters/two semesters of French language study at UC.
