Course Description

Many tools are available to governments, industry and citizens to help them make and implement good environmental management decisions. These include, for example, EIA, environmental risk management, environmental auditing and corporate reporting. This course focuses on the essential techniques and methods and outlines their application to resolving problems of sustainable development and investigates how these tools fit within legislative and institutional frameworks, and trends in the use of particular tools at project, local, regional, national and international scales.

Course Description

This course examines representations of the Australia's sporting past through the lenses of memorials, museums, film and the internet. As part of this approach, there is a focus on Australian sporting icons including Les Darcy, Dawn Fraser, Eddie Gilbert, Peter Norman and Michael O'Loughlin as well as the Australian Sport Museum (Melbourne), the Ration Shed Museum (Cherbourg) and the Australian Paralympic Movement.

Course Description

This course examines the concepts, theories and techniques required to describe dynamic environmental systems and to develop mathematical models to explore their behavior. Systems thinking and modelling approaches are applied to several important environmental systems and processes including chemical and biological transformations in water and air pollution applications, ecological models and population dynamics, global climate change, water balances in lakes and reservoirs, and energy and mass transfer.

Course Description
This course examines selected topics in both traditional and contemporary Torres Strait Islander society and culture. Students gain a broad understanding of topics such as the unique geography of Torres Strait, the influences of colonial history, the intricate relationship of people with the sea, the significance of “Mabo,” and the social organization and structure within Torres Strait Islander society and culture. Additionally, students explore the dispossession, resistance, governance, identity, and cultural perspectives of Torres Strait Islanders. The class considers both traditional and contemporary Torres Strait Islander society and culture, which is supported through films, recommended readings, guest lecturers, community elders, and speakers from the Torres Strait Islander community in Brisbane.
