Course Description

This course reflects on Spanish language education and its connection to basic principles of teaching and learning. It aims to create a critical sense of the importance of language teaching under a theoretical and conceptual framework for teaching Spanish. Furthermore, there is a focus on analyzing the theories, perspectives and approaches that make up the field of teaching of language and literature. Course Description

This course discusses violence, memory and exile in Latin America through the lens of literature and literary theory. It especially focuses on exile from Argentina and exiled writers living in Mexico. It aims to understand the relationship between literature, society and history. The class uses theoretical tools to analyze different literature from Latin America and aims to think about violence memory and exile in Latin America. The course includes texts and novels from Latin American writers, accompanied by Latin American movies as well as theoretical texts that serve to provide context for the class. Beyond the texts, the class aims to use cultural knowledge and understandings to clarify and elaborate the ideas and concepts of memory, exile and violence.

Course Description
This course provides a critical analysis of the way in which language, culture and power are interrelated within political and social phenomena. It examines concepts related to language, recognizing in particular main theories about language and its application and relevance to the social sciences. The course also identifies the function of language in the representation of worlds and legitimation of power structures, and analyzes concrete social problems in which elements of language, culture and power are articulated.

Course Description

This class in an introductory course to Geographic Information Systems (GIS), which constitute one of the most powerful modern technologies for the study of territorial, socioeconomic and environmental processes and problems from a spatial point of view. GIS allow geographic and cartographic work to be carried out in an efficient way, from the data entry, its management and analysis, until the generation of results, allowing the user (planner, businessman, researcher, teacher and student) to spend a substantial part of the time in analysis, synthesis and management of the projects, overcoming limitations traditional methods of manual information processing.  In practice, geographic information systems are much more than a technological tool, since they are made up of components such as hardware, software, users, information, methods and techniques, which enable the comprehensive management of projects, regardless of the territorial and organizational level. This course provides the student with the methodological foundations and techniques for the management and analysis of spatially referenced information, emphasizing practical work, using hardware resources, software and procedures of geographic information systems.

Course Description

This course engages students in the exploration of political rights, the legal framework governing political parties, and electoral processes in Mexico. Through the analysis of rulings by the Supreme Court and the Electoral Tribunal, students gain both institutional and jurisdictional perspectives on elections. Throughout the semester, students are encouraged to observe the U.S. electoral process, engage in a post-US election debate, and delve into related topics such as party politics, electoral systems, and the analysis of U.S. presidential elections.

Course Description
This intensive course offers instruction in research methodologies for the humanities and social sciences, introducing the theoretical and practical issues raised by field research as specific training for students preparing to conduct such research. Topics include research questions, appropriate sources of data, methods of data collection. Students visit libraries, research centers, and archives as appropriate. They consider research questions by preparing questionnaires, conducting interviews, and drawing distinctions between description and interpretation with the goal of understanding what constitutes scientific knowledge within the context of field research. Students submit a field notebook and prepare project outlines that are reviewed in a roundtable seminar with the specialist/mentors who will supervise the research itself. Assessment for the course is based on weekly assignments and a final exam.
