Course Description
This explores the contextual background of present-day European cinema. It is divided into three modules. The first module examines the image of the city as a setting, symbol, and socio-cultural organism. The second module delves into the depiction of the body in movies to address the image of the body not only as an embodiment of desires, needs, and sensations, but also as a site of political conflicts. The final module discusses the question of otherness with an analysis of migrant, diasporic, and eastern European films. NOTE: This course is the same as FILM 133, but taught in English.
