This is an independent research course with research arranged between the student and faculty member. The specific research topics vary each term and are described on a special project form for each student. A substantial paper is required. The number of units varies with the student’s project, contact hours, and method of assessment, as defined on the student’s special study project form.

This course will see fundamental elements of theories on visual communication, from psychology, semiotics and design, and we will learn how to apply this theory to the analysis of messages and their operation, and then apply both knowledge and analysis in the creation of effective visual messages. At the end of the course, the student should acquire analysis tools that contribute to a more reflective and critical look at visual messages in our society, as well as develop skills in creating some types of visual messages such as posters and photographs.

Analyze time series, to explain temporal components such as trend and seasonality. Identify the appropriate model for a time series and according to this make future data predictions.

This course offers a study of classical partial differential equations from mathematics and physics. It examines the structures of differential equations and their practical applications. 

Utilizing the modern tools of photography, this course focuses on developing students' photographic skills and techniques for effective presentation of photographic essays. It also discusses major milestones of photography and photojournalism throughout history as well as current photo shoot trends. Photo assignments in the field, visits to photojournalism exhibitions, hands-on use of photo editing software, and lectures enhanced with audiovisuals are part of this course.

This course focuses on the main concepts and tools of Bayesian inference. It explores computational algorithms for the Bayesian analysis of some specific models, such as linear regression and simple hierarchical models.

This course examines the history of gender in Chile from the colonial era to the present. It discusses how ideas about the roles of men and women in society were historically constructed and influenced other social relationships. This course examines how gender shapes politics and politics shapes gender. It focuses on ways gender has molded historical processes such as the creation of State and citizenship, as well as the links between gender and sexuality, race, ethnicity, and class.

This course explores the main problems, themes, and foundations of political aesthetics, particularly the tense and diffuse relationship between aesthetics and politics.
