Course Description

The course focuses on five prominent Chilean authors who write fiction based on historical Chilean women. It explores the relationship between literature and historical reality, with writers assuming very different ways of understanding that relationship. Topics include: the new historical novel in Chilean literature; representation of the female historical subject in the current Chilean novel; the concepts of popular consciousness, memory, and transtextuality; the relationship between history and memory.

Course Description
This course provides a critical analysis of primary sources regarding political violence, often in the forms of written testimonies and oral history, such as interviews and documentaries. It examines the importance and key role of memory in the social construction of history, and the way in which historical documents and survivors' testimonials construct this memory. The course also examines the motives for survivors to document their experience of political violence, as well as motives for society to read and listen to these testimonies.

Course Description
This course provides a study of the contemporary debates in sociology of art in relation to the perspective of imaginary and symbolic representations. Texts by key theorists, including Passeron, Fabiani, Leenhardt, Heinich, Péquignot, Bachelard, Durand, Castoriadis, Carretero, Baeza, are covered. The course also critically analyzes works and artistic trajectories to understand the social and symbolic dimensions of artistic production and art institutions.

This course provides a multidisciplinary study of the relationship between film and fiction and their reflection of modern culture. It explores various themes relating to societal development and the role of artists, writers, and poets in the development process. The course is divided into three sections: understanding contemporary culture (modern literature and identity crisis, film and cultural identity); modernity as a culture of violence and disintegration (traditional culture versus a culture of change, crisis of modern rationality); postmodernism and cultural complexity (complex subjectivity and new realism, uncertainty and equilibrium).
