Course Description
This course provides a comparative and theoretical introduction to the recent social transformation of East Asian societies. In the first half, we study the reform and opening up of "Actually Existing Socialism" in China. For this, we read the theories of Marx and Lenin to make sense of issues in post-socialist transformation. Socialism in theory by Marx and Lenin used to be an alternative vision to western, liberal capitalism to some countries, but socialism in reality has been disasterous and almost disappeared on earth. The topics of working class politics, human rights and democracy, resistance and struggle from below, and globalization are discussed. In the second half, we move to the topics of gender and citizenship. We read a few articles by contemporary feminists, then examine the contemporary issues faced by women and minority in East Asia. In this part, we collectively examine and grapple with the problem of social exclusion and discrimination in East Asia today. Assessment: Attendance and Participation (20%), Final Exam (40%), Mid-Term Exam (40%)

Course Description
This course covers artistic behavior, phenomenon, and work with the eye of society and at the same time analyzes society again through the appearance of society reflected in art. The long-standing interest of sociology is that art is no exception, as it reveals that the institutions of society are not created by themselves or independently, but autonomously. Through this lesson, students realize that art is transcendental and social, and that the aesthetic dimension is not exogenous but social. Arts are usually treated as transcendental, i.e. beyond our normal and everyday life, and artists are seen as geniuses totally different from ordinary people. Sociology of arts regards such beliefs as myth, and try to unveil the social foundation and construction of arts hidden by such myth. Assessment: Attendance and Discussion (15%), Report (30%), Presentation (25%), Essay (30%)

Course Description
Most psychology subjects learn what is found in various areas of psychology: perception, clinical, social, personality, development, and industrial psychology. However, this subject focuses on how rather than what. Through the process of thinking and discussing how to do various psychology studies together, we lay the foundation for psychology as a science. The goal of this class is to provide scientific access to a variety of psychological questions and to help people with ethical, critical, and creative qualities. More specifically, through this class, you learn the kinds of psychological research methods, the special benefits and limitations of each method, the tricks and limitations of experimental design and the concepts that are generally needed to be considered, how to interpret the results of the experiment, and how to write a report. Students also have a chance to ask themselves a psychology question and to study it in detail to answer it.
