Course Description
This course provides a study of contemporary Spanish literature, applying background knowledge going back to 1975, but emphasizing works produced from the 1980s through the present. Course Description
This class covers the history of social and political thought in Latin America from the 19th century to the present. It examines history of Latin American thought of the 19th century through the main trends represented in Latin American liberalism and positivism, which concludes in the ideological and political confrontation between Latin Americanism and Pan-Americanism. The course discusses the theoretical, political and ideological constructions of Latin American thought during the 20th century and considers the regional debate on the alternatives and paths of new Latin American critical thinking in the 21st century.

Course Description

This course is designed to deepen and refine the oral and written communicative competence of students at the B2.2 level (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). Specific objectives of the course include developing the capacity to present ideas in a clear, detailed, and complex manner; to write clear, complex, structured text on any subject; participate in daily conversations on general topics, using formal and informal styles. Grammatical forms covered include: the imperative; non-personal forms; the future and perfect future; the conditional and the perfect conditional; the subjunctive; conditional sentences; conditional compound; referenced speech; introductory verbs.

Course Description
This course is a study on the main variables that influence the behavior of economic agents. It covers the basic concepts of consumer theory, uncertainty and risk, the theory of the firm, and partial equilibrium analysis. Additional topics include: utility functions, budget sets, demand functions, labor supply, taxes, subsidies, price indices, risk aversion, attraction to risk, technology and production, demand factors, cost functions, supply functions, and the regulatory policies in competitive and monopolistic markets: price controls, quotas, taxes, subsidies, and tariffs. NOTE: This course is the same as ECON 105, but taught in English.

Course Description
This course examines the historical and social characteristics of the last century and the evolution of Portuguese and Brazilian literature through critical reading and analysis of the main works of the Luso-Brazilian avant-garde as well as early African literature specifically from São Tomé and Angola. Texts from Portugal, Brazil and Africa are covered in depth and the literary movements of this period comparatively analyzed in order to trace the relationships, affinities, and connections between different literary traditions.
