Course Description
The course examines the importance of the two key instruments of international relations: diplomacy and war. It focuses on the main events in foreign policy of the modern age, emphasizing the evolution of warfare and the development of professional diplomacy. Topics of study include: religious wars and the spirit of Westphalia, war and diplomacy in the 18th century. European armies, changes in international relations, the work of diplomats, and the new concept of war. Other/required coursework: previous knowledge is not required although it is advisable to have the level of Contemporary World History of High School education.

Course Description
The course expands vocabulary, grammar, frequently used expressions, and basic Spanish structures necessary for developing an elementary level of communicative Spanish proficiency. Course Description
This course introduces Spanish grammar and the development of the four language skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing while introducing cultural information about Spain and Spanish America. The objectives of the course include the ability to ask and answer questions relating to personal characteristics, needs, and items; to recognize expressions of formal and informal social interaction; to request information in various settings; to describe objects, places, and events in the past or present; to indicate preferences and personal taste. Assessment for the course is based on daily workbook exercises, weekly quizzes and compositions, a mid-term exam, and a final exam with both oral and written components.
