The course presents a study of the urban planning and architecture of al-Andalus through their most prominent and best-preserved monuments, and also examines written sources that mention civil and religious buildings. It explores cities, mosques and palaces of al-Andalus in their historical and artistic context, specifically: the mosque of Córdoba and religious art in the Umayyad period; the city-palace of Madinat al-Zahra; the Taifa Kingdoms; the Aljafería of Zaragoza and palace oratories; the Almohad mosque of Seville and religious art in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries; the Almohad palaces, the Alcázar of Seville, Murcia and palaces of Ibn Mardanis; the Alhambra in Granada.
