Housing
You can live in any type of housing in an area that best suits your interests and lifestyle. Finding an apartment, homestay, or residence hall, comparing features, costs, and amenities, and then getting to know your Madrid neighborhood is all part of the study abroad experience. During the predeparture phase, UCEAP will share a detailed program guide to assist students as they make their own housing arrangements. Plan to book your housing 2-3 months before your program starts.
Apartment
Neighborhoods are called barrios. The Atocha, Malasaña, and Moncloa barrios are popular with students. Living spaces in Madrid are small, so Spaniards typically live their social life outside the home in parks, restaurants, bars, etc. Most students take to cafés and libraries for studying.

Dorm
Carlos III University has dorms available in Leganes, which is located about 45-minutes from central Madrid, and there are also several private residence halls open to all students within the city of Madrid.

COMMUTE

Homestay
Homestays consist of a rented room in a house or apartment, and you'll work with a housing service to arrange your stay. Most hosts have been welcoming UCEAP students for many years. You’ll be accepted into their home as a renter and may or may not be included in the daily activities. In some cases, the same family may host a second student (UC or international).
