Field of Study: Engineering
Gain valuable research experience by joining one of the research groups at the Carlos III University School of Engineering. Choose from a variety of research groups in diverse areas such as Computer Science, Thermal Engineering, Materials Science, Telematics, and Bioengineering. You'll be supervised by, and work closely with, the professor overseeing the research group. Round out your experience with a course that covers current ethical and philosophical discussions happening within the field of engineering.

To successfully complete this program:
- Take two courses for a total of 9 quarter/6.0 semester UC units.
- A letter grade is required for both courses. The pass/no pass grading option isn't available on this program.

Research Lab Placement
During the predeparture phase, you'll select your top five fields of research interest. Carlos III University will work with the departments and research groups to match you with a professor who will oversee your research work. A list of the available research groups is linked in the Catalogs and Resources section below. While most research is available in English, if you demonstrate sufficient language proficiency, you would also have the option to join a research group in Spanish.

You'll work 25 hours per week in the research lab plus a one-hour meeting with your lab supervisor.
The intensity of this program requires active participation to maintain the pace. To avoid falling behind and to succeed up to the final weeks of the program, attend all classes and complete all assignments. In the Ethics for Engineers course, you'll be in class with other UCEAP students, and your research lab will primarily comprise local faculty and students.
Grades
You'll earn direct UC credit and grades for all coursework.
Grades for this program are usually available in late September.
Because grades may not be available in time for degree verification deadlines, graduating seniors should discuss their plans with their campus academic advisor to determine when to declare candidacy for graduation.
