Fields of Study: Humanities, Science, Engineering

Conduct part-time or full-time research over four weeks at the Tec De Monterrey- Monterrey campus, the flagship campus of the Tec De Monterrey university system. You will rank a short list of your preferred research projects/ tracks during the host university application process. 

For those who choose the Part-time research track, you can choose to take one of two electives available: Spanish Language (Beginning or Advanced) or Doing Business in Mexico.

Academic Culture

As in many other countries, students in Mexico choose their major before entering the university and primarily take courses solely related to their major. The university curriculum is well established for each major in any given escuela, with limited flexibility or course choice for Mexican students. Given that each course builds on the previous courses, coursework may be much more theoretically advanced than it is at UC. You may need to do extra background reading to bring yourself to the level of your Mexican peers.

Class attendance at Tec is mandatory and students are expected to arrive on time for classes. Absences are only justified if they are medically necessary. 

All Tec campuses practice the Tec21 educational model, centered on challenge-based learning where students spend more than 50% of their time in the classroom working on real-world projects and deliverables in teams. Tec students are highly engaged and motivated in their work. 

Grades

You will earn direct UC credit and grades for all coursework.

Summer grades will likely be available in your UCEAP portal 60 days after the program end date. 

If your term abroad is your last term at UC, please be aware that grades may not arrive in time for degree verification deadlines. UCEAP recommends you speak with your UC campus Study Abroad Office about your plans for advice on when you should declare your candidacy for graduation.
