Housing

Housing at Osaka University is arranged for you before you arrive on campus. Fall and Spring students will stay in a dorm. Summer students have the options to stay in a hotel or homestay.  

Dorm

Fall and Spring Housing Only. Please note that placement in a dorm is not guaranteed and you may need to make your own housing arrangements.  

Dorm rooms are single occupancy with a shared common room, bathroom, and a small kitchenette. Residents are separated by gender. Students often join social activities organized by residence hall staff, including holiday parties, tea ceremonies, Ikebana classes, and sports events.

Commute

The commute varies between a 25-minute walk to a 50-minute train ride depending on your dorm and laboratory's locations.

Hotel

Summer Housing Only. 

Students will rank their preference between a hotel room or homestay.

The commute varies and can be up to 60-minutes by train and/or bus ride.

Homestay

Summer Housing Only. 

Students will rank their preference between a hotel room or homestay. A Japanese homestay typically means renting a room in a compact apartment in a tall building. You should expect to communicate almost exclusively in Japanese during your stay, so this is an excellent opportunity to develop your language skills. Many students form close relationships with their homestay families and return for later visits.
