About The Program

Got a research topic you've always wanted to pursue? Take your curiosity and ideas to Scotland, where you'll build a strong relationship with faculty mentors on a program that mimics graduate school. No large lecture halls and no anonymity. You'll focus on a single research topic in chemistry, creative writing, history, life sciences, philosophy, or psychology, and present your results in the form of a research article at a mock conference. On weekends, dance the lively Scottish cèilidh to traditional folk music, visit a 13th-century castle, hike in Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. This is a six-week program that leaves plenty of summer open for trips throughout Europe.

Where you'll study

Attend the alma mater to some of the world’s most renowned innovators: physicist and engineer Lord Kelvin, economist Adam Smith, and pioneer of television John Logie Baird. Among the UK’s earliest universities, parts of the University of Glasgow feel like a set out of a Harry Potter movie. On your way to classes, you’ll pass by elegant spires, gothic-arched windows, epic colonnades, and halls where Albert Einstein once lectured. In other areas, you’ll find the modern labs, sleek steel and glass structures, and top-tier facilities one would expect at a leading school for international research. The main campus is located in the posh West End of Glasgow about two miles from the city center.




The Summer Research in Glasgow program gave me the opportunity to conduct a laboratory research project with a degree of independence that would be challenging to acquire elsewhere. Doing research abroad gave me a glimpse into the research culture of Scotland and, more broadly, Western Europe, which is particularly useful given the current state of life sciences research in the States.
