You have the option to live in a dorm, apartment, or homestay. If you choose an apartment or homestay, you will need to research and arrange housing on your own prior to your arrival.

Dorm

You can apply to live in one of three dorms for international students, all conveniently located within walking distance of the main campus in downtown Tokyo. Most have a private bathroom with shared shower facilities, and access to a common area and shared kitchen. Residential hall life is very important to Japanese students who view their hall as their social community. Events and athletic competitions between dorms is common. 

University dorm spaces at Waseda are limited and placement is not guaranteed. While dorms remain an option, you should also be prepared to consider off-campus housing. Waseda University provides housing resources and support to help you find an alternative if you do not receive a dorm space.

The commute is a 10-minute walk to campus.

 

Apartment or Sharehouse

You can research Tokyo's private rental market to find an apartment that fits your needs. Apartments vary widely in price, amenities, and location. Alternatively, sharehouses are a popular hybrid between an apartment and dorm. You typically have a private bedroom with shared living spaces that create opportunities to build a community while abroad.

Commute

A typical commute can take 30-60 minutes by public transportation, depending on the location of your apartment to the main campus.

 

Homestay

Living with a local Japanese family is a great way to experience Japanese daily life while you develop your language skills. A private company will help you arrange a homestay and put you in touch with the family before you arrive.
