This course examines the biology of Australia's vertebrate fauna with particular emphasis on frogs, reptiles, birds, and mammals. Students examine the adaptations of the fauna to the unique and uncertain nature of the Australian terrestrial environment. Topics covered include: the diversity of Australian vertebrate groups in comparison to other parts of the world; the impact of human activities and introduced animals on native fauna; wildlife diseases; and the ethics associated with research and experimentation on animals.
COURSE DETAIL
This course examines economic explanations of underdevelopment, and modern strategies for fostering development. It investigates the role of institutions, institutional change, and markets as they relate to economic development, and discuss related domestic and international economic policy questions. Special emphasis is put on the interplay and synergy between economic theory (attempting to explain underdevelopment) and empirical data (providing both motivating facts and specific testing grounds for theory).
COURSE DETAIL
This course explores developments in the Hollywood film industry from the 1960s to the present. Students examine some of the key issues of this period, including the focus on modernist strategies, revisionist approaches, allusionism, and the new generation of Hollywood film school "auteurs." The course also examines the interconnection between entertainment industries, and the emergence and significance of "high concept" as a production and marketing strategy.

This course examines food microbiology; microbial ecology of foods (effects of water activity, pH, temperature, etc); significance, characteristics and control of important food borne pathogens; (bacteria, viruses, fungi, seafood toxins, parasites, prions); food borne illness; indicator organisms; methods for examination of foods, regulatory standards; food borne illness; practical culture-based microbiological examination of foods; and outbreak investigations.

This course examines the study and practice of storytelling for screen media. It will provides a framework through which to recognize and critically analyze key elements of the screenwriting process.
