Course Description

The course focuses on five prominent Chilean authors who write fiction based on historical Chilean women. It explores the relationship between literature and historical reality, with writers assuming very different ways of understanding that relationship. Topics include: the new historical novel in Chilean literature; representation of the female historical subject in the current Chilean novel; the concepts of popular consciousness, memory, and transtextuality; the relationship between history and memory.

Course Description
This course provides a critical analysis of primary sources regarding political violence, often in the forms of written testimonies and oral history, such as interviews and documentaries. It examines the importance and key role of memory in the social construction of history, and the way in which historical documents and survivors' testimonials construct this memory. The course also examines the motives for survivors to document their experience of political violence, as well as motives for society to read and listen to these testimonies.

Course Description
This course provides a study of literature for or about children and young adults. It examines the principle characteristics of juvenile literature and the evolution of the cultural landscape of the genre. Topics include: concepts and history of children's literature; European folk traditions, oral legends and fairy tales; classical works of children's literature and challenges of validity (Lewis Carroll; Jonathan Swift, Robert L. Stevenson, and Jules Verne; C.S. Lewis and J.R. Tolkien); canonical Chilean expressions of the genre (Hernan del Solar and Rapa-Nui editorials; Papelucho; Brunet, Hunneus, Morel); postmodern changes in children's literature, including the role of illustration (picture books) and experimentation (palimpsests and metafiction).

Course Description
The course presents the fundamental notions of the biological dimension of human beings, with a particular emphasis being given to biological systems primarily related to the maintenance of higher cognitive functions. It addresses the basic concepts of physiology and anatomy of the human nervous system as well as the physiology of other biological systems committed to emotional functioning. The course also discusses the scope and limitations of the disciplinary dialogue between biology and psychology. Topics covered include: general principles of human biology and physiology relevant to biopsychology; introduction to neurobiology; models of functional organization of the nervous system and behavior; other physiological systems relevant to human behavior; practical analysis of psychological processes from the perspective of integral biology.
