Course Description
The course provides an overview of both important theoretical and empirical contributions and often refers to current issues on financial globalization and financial crises as well as recent work in international macroeconomics and finance. The prerequisites for this course are an introductory course in microeconomics and and more importantly one in macroeconomics. This course uses some basic mathematical tools that are common in any modern economic course. Students are required to attend regularly and participate actively. Textbooks: Paul R. Krugman, Maurice Obstfeld and Marc Melitz, INTERNATIONAL ECONOMICS: THEORY AND POLICY.

Course Description

The purpose of this course is to clarify phenomena and problems that are inherent in the market economy by an examination of the laws and economic systems that support the internal and contractual structure of the market. In particular, the course focuses on Coase Theorem and its application to nuisance law, sales law, and tort law. This is a lecture course, but students are expected to work on "legal cases" into three groups (plaintiff, defendant, and judge) in each class, and are expected to participate in the deliberations of the cases among the three groups.

Course Description
This course examines the various religions of Asia are examined both historically and topically. Emphasis is on the religions of China, Korea, and Japan. This course examines the history, beliefs and practices of some of the major religions of Asia, including Hinduism (Ancient Hinduism, Bhakti movement, Shaivism, Vaishnavism, Shaktism), Jainism, Sikhism, Buddhism (Indian and Southeast Asian Buddhism, Buddhism in East and Central Asia), Confucianism, Daoism and Shintoism. The course compares and contrasts the beliefs and practices of different traditions, and how the process of interreligious and cross-cultural interaction has affected the development of each tradition. Course Description

Human security is a new approach to security, which sheds light on non-traditional threats, and allows us to explore ways to safeguard people’s vital freedoms from fear and wants. This course will begin by considering what human security means, and how useful the concept is in understanding the contemporary security challenges, and how it intersects with various issue areas on the global security agenda. A specific emphasis will be given the themes of protection and empowerment of vulnerable people caught up in violent conflict and natural disaster. The course will conclude by examining the relevance of the human security approach to theories and practices of peacebuilding and natural disaster management.

Course Description
This seminar course gives an overview of how human culture has shaped and is shaped by the natural environment. It is a survey of overlapping key concepts and concerns in the social sciences with focus on anthropology and geography and environmental studies. Course topics include: mediating nature, population and scarcity markets and commodities, environmental ethics, risks and hazards in political economy, social constructions of nature, carbon dioxide and trees, wolves and uranium. The course provides an overview of the way social scientists, and anthropologists in particular, study the interaction between society and the natural world.

Students will acquire basic grammar and vocabulary needed for everyday life and attending university classes in Japan, learn the four skills “listening” and “writing”.

The purpose of these courses is to develop students' communication skills of speaking through various activities focused on spoken expressions.
