Course Description
The course focuses on the Second Civil Government Treaty. The course presents Locke's political thought as it unfolds in the TWO TREATIES OF THE CIVIL GOVERNMENT, and places it in relation to the previous expositions devoted to the natural law. The course is devoted to analyzing the tensions that seem to exist in Locke's thought between a radical critique of any form of sovereignty that involves the affirmation of the absolute and inalienable character of natural human rights grounded in natural law, and the apparent defense of a form of popular sovereignty. The course tries to determine if Locke really tries and if he manages to articulate two essential principles of political modernity that are quickly identifiable with its two liberal and democratic components, even republican.

Course Description

This course provides an introduction to the existence of phonetic variation and change in modern English, as well as tools to detect and analyze this variation. Far from being a theoretical course on the major changes that took place in the history of English, this course focuses on language as can be directly accessed using recent and contemporary sources and tools. The first part of the course discusses how pronunciation was indicated in older dictionaries as objects of knowledge and culture, starting from 16th and 17th century books, and mainly focusing on 18th to 20th century dictionaries. The second part investigates how a collection of dictionaries from various periods can be used as a relevant corpus to identify and explain phonetic variation and change in present-day English as well as from a historical perspective, including the way new linguistic features can be born and spread through the language. The final part of the course demonstrates how to collect, annotate, and analyze oral English. It includes an introduction to the use of the speech analysis software PRAAT.

Course Description
This course focuses on seeing the different facets of the mobility of the land-sea boundary. In the first part of the course, students learn the definition of the littoral (coastlines) according to different disciplines (biology, geography, and ecology) and analyze a variety of problems that arise in coastal planning and conversation. The second part of the course focuses on coastal forces such as variations of the global sea level, coastal dynamics, and types of coastlines (processes, different forms, reefs). This part of the course includes a variety of exercises aimed at understanding the different scales of time and space regarding coastal systems. In the third part, the issues of coastal mobility are tackled by the analysis of policies and planning techniques (MIACA, MIALR, littoral law, PPRL, defense works, strategies in other countries). Finally, in the fourth period, it is a question of the littoralization and the stakes to come with tourism of the littorals, the retreat of the coastline on the low coasts, the mangrove, the coral reefs, etc.
