Course Description
This class covers the history of social and political thought in Latin America from the 19th century to the present. It examines history of Latin American thought of the 19th century through the main trends represented in Latin American liberalism and positivism, which concludes in the ideological and political confrontation between Latin Americanism and Pan-Americanism. The course discusses the theoretical, political and ideological constructions of Latin American thought during the 20th century and considers the regional debate on the alternatives and paths of new Latin American critical thinking in the 21st century.

Course Description
This course examines the historical and social characteristics of the last century and the evolution of Portuguese and Brazilian literature through critical reading and analysis of the main works of the Luso-Brazilian avant-garde as well as early African literature specifically from São Tomé and Angola. Texts from Portugal, Brazil and Africa are covered in depth and the literary movements of this period comparatively analyzed in order to trace the relationships, affinities, and connections between different literary traditions.

This course provides a study of the generalities of intraspecific human anatomy and physiology in order to contrast the morphological changes that occurred during the evolutionary process of the human species, and to identify human remains recovered within archaeological, historical or forensic contexts.
