Course Description
The course consists mainly of an applied program development task based on the finite element method. The program contains both computational code and a graphical user interface. The program development is divided into several subtasks, each representing an assignment to be turned in. The computer code developed must be tested and documented, and be presented at an oral exam. To carry out the task, the student must acquire knowledge in the programming languages to be used. The task is designed in such a way that the degree of difficulty gradually increases for each subtask. In the tasks the following features are included: information about hardware, system software, graphical user interfaces, structuring of computer software, and implementation of element routines, mesh generation and visualization. Furthermore, short descriptions of software and hardware systems for high performance computations, commercial finite element codes and their structure including pre- and post-processors.

Course Description

This course focuses on the comparative study of the four formerly Communist Central European countries, commonly referred to as the Visegrad Group. The course draws upon students' basic knowledge of current and classic themes of comparative politics and takes these to the next level by analyzing how applicable they are to the region under study where democratic institutions are young. It focuses on historical and current developments in Central Europe, looking at how the legacy of Communist rule shaped the creation of a particular type of political institutions and political actors. The course looks at and compares the systems of legislatures, executives in the four countries and analyses the role of the fragile judiciary systems in the region. Among other topics covered are corruption, democratization, mass protesting, party development as well as changing values. The course briefly looks at the backlash in the European integration process and rise of populism and far-right movements in the region.

Course Description
The course focuses on very-large-scale integrated (VLSI) digital circuit realization, targeting for fast prototyping on an FPGA platform. Students learn how to implement typical blocks of a large digital system, e.g., state machines, data-path, etc. Moreover, students are taught to optimize a digital implementation, mainly on the architecture level, for area, speed, and power. Basic knowledge of design for test (DFT) is covered to provide good understanding of a complete digital VLSI design flow. The knowledge gained during the lectures is implemented through practical assignments in the lab. The course teaches the basic concept of VHDL and tool training required for the compulsory assignments, i.e., Sequence Detector, ALU, and a Keyboard Controller. Based on the experience gained through compulsory assignments, the students may continue with a small project.

Course Description

The main focus of this course is the structure and function of limnic ecosystems. It presents recent theories and models about physical processes and biogeochemical cycles in relation to organisms and their interactions. In this context, the course discusses the microbial loop and trophic interaction hypotheses. Moreover, human's influence on the limnic ecosystem is illustrated. The course also includes training in chemical analysis and water sampling technique as well as exercises in species knowledge of phytoplankton, zooplankton, macrophytes, macroinvertebrates and fish. Teaching is performed as lectures, workshops, and group discussions. During one week, students get experience in field sampling in oligotrophic lakes at the Aneboda Field Station in Småland. In addition, a eutrophic lake in Scania is studied during a one-day excursion. Collected samples are analyzed for water chemistry and organisms, and data are interpreted in lake-systems perspective. All field work is carried out as several group projects that are planned and designed in advance by the students under teacher supervision.

Course Description
This course provides you with a deeper introduction to the conceptual and theoretical tools used in the study of international politics. The course also examines a number of enduring and contemporary topics in international relations such as international cooperation, security issues, nuclear proliferation, arms control, environmental politics, foreign policy analysis, warning-response problems, and humanitarian intervention. The course concludes with a role-playing game where students have the opportunity to apply the concepts they have learned by engaging in simulated international negotiations. The overarching goal of this course is to impart how the fundamental concepts, theoretical approaches, and methods from International Relations and social science can be applied to make sense of and study world politics and global affairs. The course also aims to help students develop a set of general skills–the ability to think critically, analyze information, and express themselves orally and in writing–that serves them well in their future educational and professional endeavors.
