This course is designed for students to enhance their speaking and listening ability using sentence structures and grammatical patterns learned in Minna no Nihongo Shokyuu. (L26~48). This class introduces European Union competition law, which is one of the key areas of the EU. EU competition law and US antitrust law are two main streams in the world's competition law and both have their own unique features, influenced by various economic theories. The course mainly focuses on case study. In practice, economic evidence through economic consultants is facilitated in EU courts. Students are informed of the real case experience throughout the lecture.

The Analysis of Capitalism from Marxian View. Based on the method and viewpoint of Marxian economics, this lecture provides a theoretical foundation that critically elucidates the problems of the modern economy and society, the characteristics of capitalist economy, historical law of capitalism. This class examines the difference between Marxian economics and modern economics, such as terms used in theories as well as the overall ideas behind theories.

This course surveys the history of economic thought after the Marginalist Revolution. The course looks at the development of economics from the viewpoint of history and theory, in order to understand modern economics from a different perspective. The course covers the theories of economics found after the Revolution, and the mathematical basis of how these were formed.

This course explores the economic history of China from the Qing dynasty through the present era of reform and restructuring. It examines the impact that the economic plans and demands of elites and the state had on Chinese society and culture, and the influences these pans had on what happens in East Asia and the world. This course provides a contextual overview of the role that economic development and economic planning played in the making of modern China, and how the economic decisions and directions taken by state elites in their quest to build modern China had and continue to have significant consequences for society. Some key themes covered include: globalization, international vs local models, markets, modernization, development, state-planning, total war, socialism, Maoism, liberalization and reform, and socialism with Chinese characteristics. Environmental economics is an emerging discipline that may become the force needed to drive a paradigm shift to sustainable futures for our global society. Although much is being done in the area of theory, this course focuses on the practical by exploring environmental economics through real life case studies. This course helps students further both their ability to analyze environmental problems and their understanding the trade-offs – benefits, loses and liabilities inclusive - behind the choices we make when considering environmental economics and the potential paths to realizing a sustainable future for both humankind and other living organism inhabiting planet Earth.

This course explores topics in Japanese civil law, focusing on marriage, divorce, and family conflicts. Using “roppou” and other handouts, this course unpacks the confusing parts of the civil law, and the meaning of its existence. Students learn to understand civil law as the way of protecting and controlling the citizens of Japan.
