Course Description
This course describes the historical process and change of ancient Chinese poetry, and separates ancient Chinese poetry into three main categories (the emotions between people, the emotions of man towards society, and the emotions of man towards nature), nine general types (love, friendship, family, affection, current events, history, landscapes, pastoral, and objects). Each selected article of famed poetry is thoroughly read and analyzed.

Course Description

This course is for students who have taken Intermediate III of the Chinese Language Course for International Students or those who have taken Chinese for at least 700 hrs. By the end of the course students are capable of using written language to communicate effectively in formal writing and of understanding public announcements, news, and other broadcasts. In addition to the text lessons, this course also brings up topics each class that help students develop proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Through the course, students are able to use appropriate Chinese to carry on discussions, and read newspapers and magazines to further understand Taiwanese culture and language.

Course Description

Course Description
This course develops skills in listening comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing of Chinese for business activities, and deepens understanding of the economic life, society, and culture of China in relation to business. Teaching content includes company organizational structure; investment; recruiting and applying for a job; team work; product introduction; marketing; profit; advertising; customer service and trade negotiating. Emphasis is placed on teaching materials with complementary materials related to other business activities. The course includes discussion, simulated business dialogue, simulated business writing and other forms. Simulated business Chinese test reading, spoken Chinese language and writing examinations are offered to enhance students' use of Chinese language in daily life. Text: New Silk Road- Quick Advanced Business Chinese Language (Book I & Book II, by Li Haiyan). Assessment: Midterm test and final, class participation.

Course Description
This course introduces selective Western and Chinese literary novels, and provides a forum for extended practice in the art of creative writing. It is designed for students who have little or no previous experience writing literary texts in a particular genre. Introductory workshops cover a variety of technical and imaginative concerns through exercises, readings, and discussions. In addition to weekly reading literary classics, this course focuses on writing literary novels in Chinese or cross the boundaries of the genre.

Course Description

This Chinese language course is for students who have taken General Chinese Language Course - Beginning Chinese I or those who have taken Chinese for at least 100 hours. The course improves effective communication skills in daily life activities; teaches appropriate Chinese to make arrangements with friends, order food at restaurants, etc. Students practice reading, writing, listening, and speaking ability. Students also further their understanding of Taiwanese culture and language. This course uses the textbook "Practical Audio-Visual Chinese I" (Chapter 7 - Chapter 12).

Course Description

This course examines poetry and literature from the Tang dynasty to Song dynasty in classical Chinese. Students analyze line by line of the poetry written by famous Chinese scholars. These literati express their feelings, emotions, attachment, relationship with the garden they own in these poetry. The poetries are specifically on garden poetry---which is poetry written about gardens and the emotion of literati. The course is taught all in Chinese with readings in classical Chinese.

Course Description

This course strengthens the intermediate learner’s language skill and culture knowledge in Chinese by learning words and phrases, sentences, grammar and related cultural knowledge. The course uses six (each for 6 hours) of the text book” Contemporary Chinese –Book 2”(Sino-lingua). The course includes classroom language practice opportunities such as sentence patterns, short conversations and a complete expression in Chinese. In addition, there is homework for the students for deepen their understanding of the content which they have learned, to further improve the ability to use language.

Course Description

This class is mainly taught in Chinese and is for students who have mastered more than 450 Chinese words or have more than 320 hours of Chinese language instruction. The course includes Taiwanese pronunciation (initials, finals, intonation, transposition, soft tone, legato); spelling of Roman characters and review of commonly used Chinese characters in Taiwanese; sentence building exercises; question answering and dialogue exercises for advanced sentence patterns; Taiwanese songs; Taiwanese tongue twisters, popular proverbs, jokes, essays, and stories; and Taiwanese culture.
