Course Description

The curriculum of the course is designed for Chinese learners who are studying a beginning course in Chinese. The teaching language of this course is mainly in Chinese, supplemented by English. The goal of the course is to help learners acquire basic language ability for common use in daily conversations. Course Description
This course improves language skills and listening abilities with exercises in Chinese language. Course Description
This is an advanced Cantonese language course focused on building up listening ability in professional context and presenting students with multi-media authentic materials. Topics for discussion include various local and international news and issues related to our society, such as education system,economy and immigration. This class teaches listening to Cantonese in a professional setting. Each week, the class listens to a Cantonese news video and breaks down the vocabulary and discusses the video. It is the highest level of Cantonese in CUHK, with most students fluent in the Romanized words of Cantonese. There are weekly quizzes and a midterm and final.

Course Description

This intensive course is intended for foreign learners who have completed CHIN9502 (first year) or have attained an equivalent level of competency. It develops audio-lingual proficiency as well as raises reading and writing ability and the ability to converse on daily topics with Chinese people, and present short speeches based on the assigned topics. Emphasis is placed on everyday topics and common patterns facilitate communication in Chinese. Students learn to write 250 new characters on top of approximately 500 characters acquired at the previous level. Students should be able to recognize no less than 1000 Chinese characters accumulated through previous learning. Students are taught to write short compositions of about 200 characters.

Course Description
This course is a cultural quality course for the whole school. It is a course that guides the two classics of Tao Te Ching and The Analects. The interpretation of this lesson is as follows: Putting the Tao Te Ching and The Analects into the historical evolution of the Zhou Dynasty to the Qin and Han Dynasties (also an important stage of development of Chinese traditional culture), each book is regarded as an important part of cultural development. The masterpieces, they believe that they together constitute one organic whole with inner consistent logic. Among them, the Zhou Dynasty established the model of ritual and music civilization. The Tao Te Ching represents the Taoist thinking and profoundly reflected and criticized the ritual and music civilization. On the basis of inheriting the Zhou Dynasty civilization, the Analects absorbed a profound part. The philosophical speculation has carried out a comprehensive inheritance and creative reconstruction of the Chinese civilization. The Tao Te Ching and The Analects represent the two most important traditions of Chinese culture: Taoism and Confucianism.

Course Description

This course strengthens Chinese listening, writing, and speaking skills and focuses on improving pronunciation. The course is designed for exchange students and visiting students only. The Chinese course is offered for those students who are taking Chinese course Elementary I, II & III from NTU Center for International Education.This class goes over vocabulary and grammar in depth. There are class discussions every lesson. Class discussions are held every class for approximately one hour. The course also furthers understanding of Taiwanese culture and language. Attendance is required. Students who miss five courses will receive an F. Assessment: attendance and participation, midterm exam, interview, written exam, assignments, quizzes and reports.
