Course Description
What is it like to be a child and grow up in Ireland today? What rights do children in Ireland have, and why do rights matter? This course addresses questions like these, and introduces some of the key issues relating to childhood and children's rights in Ireland and in comparison with other countries. Students examine the meaning of childhood from different perspectives; children as rights holders; and children's agency, participation, voice, and citizenship. Students critically reflect on their own beliefs and understandings of the status of children and young people and question the extent to which children's rights are realized in different settings and in different cultures and societies.

Course Description

This course explores religious education and the different approaches to religious education in general. It evaluates religious education in Israel and the different approaches held in diverse school systems. The course exposes how the religion of the “other” is presented in various educational systems and how it impacts the view of the “other.” It provides insight to the connection between religious education and multidimensional conflicts (political, social, religious). Moreover, it illuminates the link between religious education and peace building and provides an intersectional and critical lens to religious education in Israel and beyond.

Course Description
This course introduces the study of human development, including a critical overview of current theory, research and practice in human development, with particular emphasis on the development of early childhood through to adolescence. A core assumption of the unit is that the study of human development is inter-disciplinary, and that developmental theories, past and present, are open to question and debate. The content focuses on the processes and products of human development, related to neurobiological, cognitive, emotional, social, cultural, and language development. The classical theories are considered and examined in the light of contemporary theory and research. The seminar is concerned with the teaching of values in schools and early childhood education settings, including the creation of values-based learning environments, and with each participant's development as a human self, focusing in particular on the development of participants' professional skills and personal values.
