This course provides a study of the origins and development of ancient Greece and Rome. Specific topics covered vary by instructor and term.

The course examines the use and variations of Spanish language in numerous forms of communication. Topics include: variation and linguistic changes; standard language and the norm; journalism and linguistic correctness; word formation; language and context; syntactic-semantic relations.

This course covers theories about the production of space, concepts related to agents and urban strategies, and the contradictory strategies that act on the urban space. It examines urban complexity based on interests that are at stake in city space, theories about the urban field, and the correlation of theory with practical reality. Topics include: governance instruments (communication, participation and strategic planning); training of urban agents in contemporary society; collective communication; urban conflict and consensus; management and experiences in urban policies and agents; technology, innovation, city construction, ideology and the future.

This course explores how the State, private sector, and civil society are three key entities for understanding urban development. It examines the relationship between a big city and the people that reside in it through a reflection of the 20th century, focusing on micro, and macro interactions. This course identifies the keys to urban development in relation to the society where it is produced and scrutinizes the activity of factors, agents, and collectives that participate in urban development.

This course provides an introduction to the causes and consequences of slavery in Ancient Rome. It examines the origin of slavery and its use in agriculture, artisanry, and within royal spaces. It discusses issues of civil and private liberties, the politics of the State regarding the relationship between slaves and freedmen, class struggle, and citizenship.

This course provides a study of the contemporary debates in sociology of art in relation to the perspective of imaginary and symbolic representations. Texts by key theorists, including Passeron, Fabiani, Leenhardt, Heinich, Péquignot, Bachelard, Durand, Castoriadis, Carretero, Baeza, are covered. The course also critically analyzes works and artistic trajectories to understand the social and symbolic dimensions of artistic production and art institutions.

This course provides a study of main sociological approaches to the sports phenomenon and identifies important subjects and social practices that make up this field. Topics and themes may vary by term and instructor.

This course offers readings, analysis and interpretations of diverse poetic voices throughout Latin America. Topics include love poetry, comparison of feminine and masculine voices, metaphysical and transcendental poetry, religious and philosophical poetry, populism and poetry that denounces the social majority.
