Course Description

This course focuses on ancient Mexican art throughout Mesoamerica and its diverse regions.  In ancient Mexico, works of art played a particularly important role in the diverse rituals associated with the earth, the underworld, and death, but also with fertility and political power. By associating works of art with their archaeological context and original ritual function, the course introduces students to the wealth of information that the study of artistic works offers.

Course Description

This course recognizes and valorizes the contributions of animals throughout history in the sum of responding to the epistemological question.  Can animals be individuals who enact their own intention and will who, through its own actions, create history with themselves as the protagonists? This course dives into socio-philosophical explorations of the parallel evolution of animal labor along with neoliberalism and capitalism while later linking its ties into the Latin American context.

Course Description

This course provide an overview of the key aspects and trends of contemporary Spanish and Latin American literature, placing particular attention on areas of influence and contact between the two traditions. Topics covered include: the literary and cultural dialogue between Spain and Latin America; Spanish and Latin American Modernism vs. the Generation of '98; the poetic vanguards on both sides of the Atlantic; realism, magic and fantasy; Spanish postwar literature; women in the Hispanic world; transcendence, fragmentation, and transatlantic dialogue in the 20th century; literary trends in postmodern Spain and Latin America.

This course provides a study of the system of rights and liberties established by the Spanish Constitution. It examines the historical evolution of the rights systems, taking into account international and European protection systems; the nature and structure of rights; normative and institutional guarantees and jurisdictional guarantees, as well as suspension of rights and liberties. The course then delves into specifics of the Spanish constitutional system: the principle of equality; effective legal protection; rights specified in the Constitution.
