Course Description
The course presents the fundamental notions of the biological dimension of human beings, with a particular emphasis being given to biological systems primarily related to the maintenance of higher cognitive functions. It addresses the basic concepts of physiology and anatomy of the human nervous system as well as the physiology of other biological systems committed to emotional functioning. The course also discusses the scope and limitations of the disciplinary dialogue between biology and psychology. Topics covered include: general principles of human biology and physiology relevant to biopsychology; introduction to neurobiology; models of functional organization of the nervous system and behavior; other physiological systems relevant to human behavior; practical analysis of psychological processes from the perspective of integral biology.

This course offers an introduction to the main issues in the sociology of poverty and social marginalization. Course Description
In this course, students develop the skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish in a range of predictable situations and contexts; interact in a simple way orally and in writing with a sympathetic speaker of Spanish; develop strategies for coping with unfamiliar language or unexpected responses, such as asking for repetition or clarification; use Spanish to reinforce their knowledge of other disciplines; acquire linguistics skills, tools, and knowledge to become independent life-long learners by using Spanish for target academic activities and personal enrichment; and develop an insight into the nature of language, culture, and society, and a greater degree of intercultural competence.

This course examines the evolution of the Spanish economy from the early 1800s to the present. Topics discussed include the crisis of the Ancien Régime; the liberal revolution and development of capitalism, agrarian growth in the nineteenth century, the start of industrialism, foreign trade; persistence of traditionalism and escalating social conflict; economic collapse and recovery under Franco; crisis, openness and European integration.

This course analyzes different photographic genres and the history of the evolution of photography from its uses in art and media. It looks at the technical aspects of different styles such as documentary and humanist photography, as well as how photography captures different motives such as urban spaces, cultural and natural landscapes, war, natural disasters, and portraits.

This course examines the accelerated pace of international relations throughout the twentieth century, placing emphasis not only on the mechanisms and processes of organizing contemporary international society, but also on the difficulties and uncertainties that changes to the international scene have produced.
