This course teaches students Japanese from higher beginner. Topics: sentences with basic grammar used in daily conversation; vocabulary including noun, verb, adjective, and adverbs. Also, to improve students' listening and oral skill, the course instructor plays and explains popular Japanese songs or short film clips. The second semester of first-year elementary Japanese. Focused on abilities of reading, speaking and listening. This course starts from Lesson 8 and ends with Lesson 16. There is a midterm, a final exam and quizzes once a week. Homework includes translation, compositions and listening exercises.

This course covers the second half of standard Japanese (Beginner Level), and the grammatical framework of standard Japanese (Beginner Level). It provides a study of beginning Japanese reading, writing, and oral expression. Students should have taken Japanese as a second language (Part 1) or have some previous knowledge of the language to enroll.

This course targets the CEFR A2.1 level of spoken and written Japanese.
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1) Understand the main point of texts when expressed in basic language.
2) Speak and write a series of phrases on familiar topics.
3) Ask and answer questions and exchange ideas and information on familiar topics.
Prerequisite: “J1: JAPANESE” or equivalent.

This course focuses on intermediate level grammar and corresponds to the N2 level of the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test.

This class presents the basic Japanese letters, sentences, conversations, and literacy skills. The grading of the class is designed into three parts: class performance:40%, midterm: 30%, final: 30%. At the end of the semester, the students will have the ability to introduce themselves, ask for direction and prices in Japanese.

This basic Japanese course improves reading skills. A different theme concerning Japanese culture and society is chosen for each course and students are split into groups to engage in activities, discussion, and group work concerning the selected topic. The course aims to widen student perspectives and deepen their knowledge regarding various issues related to Japan and Japanese society. The program offers various theme courses and students may take multiple sections.
